Roland Klein trained under Christian Dior, and was Karl Lagerfeld's assistant at the atelier of Jean Patou. In 1965, Klein relocated to London from Paris, and joined the company of Marcel Fenez where he eventually became the head designer and was given his own label. He produced pieces under his name from 1973 till the end of 1978 when he left to open his own design house. So this gives us the perfect little window of time to date this piece. There were a few label changes during this time and if I had to narrow it down even further I would say this piece was made sometime between 1975 and 1978. It is fantastically ahead of its time and is a very beautiful dress. It has a bit of a Grecian feel to it and I love the mix of patterns. The long asymmetrical hem with its draped and trailing sides is quite beautiful. The deep plunging back and front are both feminine and sexy. A spectacular and very well made piece.
