Spectacular Jean Varon maxi dress with one of the most insane print combinations I have ever seen. Billowing, herringbone checked sleeves are cuffed tightly at the wrist. This same large black and white check is used for the pointed collar, (complete with the original black satin tie!!) and again all around the circumference of the hem in one grand and wide panel! Anchoring this dramatic frame is the body of the gown in all its full tented glory. It is a stunning, bright, crisp, vibrant explosion of stylized mod feeling flowers in beautiful palette of bright colors. The amount of fabric on this piece alone is mind-boggling. It is a prime example of this iconic sixties silhouette and I would not be surprised at all if an eagle eyed viewer let me know it had appeared in Vogue or Harper's in its day! Truly a find and in excellent condition.
Shoulders: 14î from seam to seam
Bust: 18î from side seam to side seam
Waist: open
Hips: open
Total: 53î from mid-back of the neck to bottom hem
Sleeves: 26î from shoulder seam to cuff
The dress is fully lined in a slightly starched, netted cotton - the lining is set into the pattern pieces. Made of a silky rayon blend it has retained the colors perfectly. There are a couple of very very faint tiny spots here and there but I am being very picky and they do not show when worn because of the way the fabric falls. Still priced accordingly. It closes with a back painted metal zipper and buttons at the cuffs.
